By J. Rodrigues

At the end of November brothers Jeffery Halsall, Rob Rice, Richard Marleau, and WGK Tim Gant visited the Coogan family at their Orangeville home. This was a happy occasion since WGK Tim had the distinct pleasure of presenting the family with a cheque for $9,000 to help pay for health care expenses for their daughter Ashlyn.

Ashlyn Coogan is their oldest 6 year old twin daughter who has quadriplegia spastic cerebral palsy. The family has many related healthcare expenses that are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or their employer extended healthcare plan.

Since 2013 council decided to help this family as the primary benefactor of our annual charity motorcycle ride.

The family was clearly pleased and overwhelmed with the support from our council.

By Br. James Rodrigues

The morning after the Turkey draw a few brothers got together to transport some logs out to a farm property in Amaranth township and cut them up for log splitting. A fellow out there lives in a trailer with a wood burning stove as the only source of heat. He is unable to work due to a heart condition and his only source of income is his government assistance.

Br. Rick Rolfe who is also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society brought this need to the attention of the brother Knights who were at the Christmas in The Park set up. It was also noticed that there was a near by free wood pile of logs from a recently felled tree. The brothers loaded them onto Br. James Rodrigues’ trailer so they could be taken out the following weekend.
