On a table in the church hall was a stack of posters, but not just any stack of posters; these were the Knights of Columbus Alcohol and Substance Abuse Awareness poster contest participants’ artwork.
Three of the catholic elementary schools were asked to have students from ages 8-14 put their ideas on paper with many different forms of tools from coloured pencils to pastels. We received many different posters and it was evident that our task to judge would not be an easy one. So many ideas (and great ones at that) on how the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse can not only lead one down the path of despair and misery but an unfortunate demise.
Many contestants conveyed a positive message that through the guidance of Jesus Christ, there is hope and help, if the choices made in life lead you down this path. We saw many different levels of artistic abilities and on more than one occasion, a "Wow" was expressed by the Brother Judges.
After an hour (or two?) we finally came to an agreement on four winners, two from St. Andrews and two from St. Benedict.
